How to Reach Orkney

There are only two ways of actually arriving in the Isles of Orkney; that is either by air or boat.

By Air
Currently, British Airways (BA) are the only carrier which offer flights to the growing Kirkwall Airport; most of the domestic flights will be via the main Scottish airports (Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Inverness) .

British Airways is scheduled to cease it's operation here in Orkney by the end of April 2008, when FlyBe will take over the reins.

By Boat
Only two operators currently sail the Pentland Firth (or North Sea) to Orkney, they are; Northlink Ferries and Pentland Ferries.

Northlink Ferries operate from both Scrabster, near Thurso and Aberdeen. They also offer sailings to/from Lerwick, Shetland.

Pentland Ferries only operate from Gills Bay, roughly midway between Thurso and John o' Groats.

You can access all of the operators' websites by the links above or via the Links page within this site.
